Democratic Party lawmaker Seo Young Kyo has revealed that during the declaration of martial law in South Korea, the Army Special Warfare Command’s 707th Special Mission Group removed approximately 6,000 rounds of ammunition, including both live and blank rounds.
According to documents provided by the Special Warfare Command on Tuesday, the 707th Battalion, deployed to the National Assembly on December 3 and 4, fired 5,940 rounds, including 3,960 live rounds and 1,980 blank rounds.
Additionally, the report disclosed that 100 Taser cartridges were also removed. Tasers are non-lethal weapons used to temporarily incapacitate targets by delivering an electrical charge that disrupts muscle control.
It’s important to note that all removed ammunition was returned after the martial law situation was resolved.
This new information aligns with the testimony of former martial law commander Park An Su, who testified during a National Assembly Defense Committee hearing. Park stated that Special Warfare Commander Kwak Jong Geun had recommended using Tasers and blank rounds should troops be deployed to the National Assembly.
