Russian President Vladimir Putin has once again underscored the close relationship between the two countries by sending a New Year’s greeting to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

On Friday, North Korea’s state-run newspaper, Rodong Sinmun, published the full text of the congratulatory letter on its front page. The report stated that Putin had sent the esteemed comrade Kim a letter of congratulations.

According to the newspaper, Putin mentioned that the meeting between him and Kim in Pyongyang this June elevated the relationship between Russia and North Korea to a new qualitative level. He added that the treaty on comprehensive strategic partnership signed due to their talks had created conditions for fundamentally expanding mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation in all key areas.

Putin expressed confidence that they will continue to work closely on joint projects to implement this historic treaty and further align their efforts to address contemporary threats and challenges in 2025. He emphasized that this undoubtedly serves the fundamental interests of the friendly peoples of the Russian Federation and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.

He concluded by wishing Kim, his loved ones, and all citizens of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea health, happiness, success, prosperity, and well-being.

Since Putin’s visit to Pyongyang in June, where he and Kim signed a new treaty, North Korea and Russia have significantly strengthened their military ties, including the deployment of North Korean troops to Russia.

Both countries are enhancing cooperation across various social, economic, and cultural sectors, and this trend is expected to continue into the following year.
