Onew returns with second LP, featuring 11 tracks for 11 emotions 
SHINee’s frontman Onew has dropped his sophomore solo studio album, delving into a spectrum of emotions through an eclectic mix of musical styles.
\”I wanted to quantify the various feelings we experience using the concept of ‘percent,’\” Onew explained during a press conference in Seoul’s Yeongdeungpo district on Tuesday. \”Even in our happiest moments, there’s often a tinge of anxiety, and in our darkest hours, a glimmer of hope can shine through. I aimed to interpret these complex emotional states in my own unique way.\”
Discussing the lead single \”Animals,\” a track that blends a pulsating bassline and acoustic guitar with animal-like sounds to capture raw instinct, Onew shared, \”In today’s world, we often hide behind masks. This song encourages everyone to embrace their true selves. My hope is that when you listen to it, it’ll awaken your primal instincts and let you lose yourself in the music.\”
The album boasts 11 tracks, each embodying a distinct emotion. \”Silky\” explores themes of laziness and relaxation, while \”Caffeine\” expresses addiction through intricate harmonies. \”Marshmallow\” paints a vivid picture of falling in love, and \”Mad\” delves into the complex feelings associated with separation.
Onew penned lyrics for seven of the tracks, including the lead single, infusing the album with his personal touch while experimenting with a diverse range of musical styles and genres.
The title track features a rap section, while songs like \”Percent\” showcase powerful percussion, snares, and otherworldly vocal samples. In contrast, \”Epilogue\” strips things back with just piano and vocals. This eclectic mix demonstrates Onew’s commitment to pushing his artistic boundaries.
\”Classical music has the power to evoke emotions without lyrics, and I’ve always wanted to explore that,\” Onew revealed. \”I’m excited to keep experimenting and evolving as an artist.\”
Next on Onew’s agenda is his first solo world tour, \”Onew the Live: Percent,\” which will take him to 16 cities across the globe.
