A bus driver has been reported to have verbally abused and assaulted a passenger who protested against the delayed departure of the bus.
According to witnesses and Yonhap News TV on the 17th, an incident occurred on the 13th on a bus heading to Jeonju from the Gunsan intercity bus terminal, where a bus driver in his 30s, identified as Mr. A, choked a passenger in his 70s.
The bus in question was scheduled to depart at 10:05 a.m., but the departure was delayed as Mr. A, the bus driver, was having a conversation with his colleagues. A passenger waiting for the driver went directly to the information desk to complain. After hearing the announcement looking for him, Mr. A belatedly boarded the bus.
Upon this, a man in his 70s, identified as Mr. B, started protesting with Mr. A. According to witnesses, when Mr. B complained about the late departure of the bus, Mr. A responded with, “What does it matter to you?” Mr. A then spat out a curse when Mr. B replied, “Isn’t that wrong?” with “Who do you think you are, you XXX?”
During this process, Mr. A grabbed Mr. B by the collar and pushed him towards the bus window. The video released during the incident shows Mr. A pushing Mr. B towards the window, pressing his neck hard enough to bend it. During the scuffle, Mr. A was also caught on camera cursing at Mr. B, saying, “You XXX.”
Afterward, there were claims from witnesses that the bus driver’s colleagues intervened and ironically told the passenger to get off the bus. The bus driver reportedly claimed the passenger was the first to assault him.
The bus company stated, “An unthinkable incident has occurred,” and revealed that they will investigate the incident through CCTV inside the bus and consider disciplinary action against the bus driver.
