① The Finest Resort in the Maldives

The Maldives is a dream honeymoon destination for couples worldwide. The fantastic scenery visible from the airplane is like a painting. With one resort per island, the Maldives allows you to spend uninterrupted time without disturbance from other tourists. The Maldives is made up of about 1,200 small islands. It feels special just knowing that there are resorts on these many islands.

Among the numerous resorts in the Maldives, I would like to introduce a resort that the World Travel Awards has selected as the Best Travel Destination in the World. That would be the Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi Resort. This place is known as a luxury resort, where the nightly rate is about $800,000. It is a large-scale resort in the Maldives managed by the global hotel capital, the Hilton Group.

The resort, also the largest private island in the Maldives, covers an area of about 79,000 square feet (7340 square meters). You must take a speedboat from Male Airport for about 30 minutes to visit. The resort consists of three private islands, with rooms including beach villas directly connected to the beach, water villas built over the water, and reef villas.

The famous room at the Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi Resort is the Reef Villa. The Beach Villa and Water Villa are built spanning the land and sea, creating a unique room only available here. The Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi Resort has eight restaurants and a bar where you can enjoy the sunset. It is also a great place to enjoy marine activities such as snorkeling due to its excellent underwater environment.

② The Private Island That Is Hard for Ordinary People to Access

At the end of the Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi Resort, there is Ithaafushi Island. This place is known for the world’s wealth and celebrities, with a nightly rate of about $620,000. This island is not easily accessible to ordinary guests. It is known that Arab tycoons and Hollywood stars like Beyonce have visited.

You can use the entire island alone, and it is a private island that can only be reached by boat from the public space where the resort facilities are gathered. It has various types of villas, nine bedrooms, restaurants, and convenience facilities so you can spend time only on the island.

Etienne Dalancon, the general manager, explained, “Typically, hotels build rooms in both directions to provide many rooms, but Waldorf Astoria builds rooms only in one direction, even if it means giving up space for the privacy and view of customers so that all rooms and directions can enjoy a view of the sea.”

③ The First Resort in the Maldives

Emirates Holidays

Kurumba Maldives Resort was selected as the Best Meeting & Conference Resort in the 2019 Maldives Travel Awards. Kurumba Maldives Resort is the first private resort island in the Maldives. Since its opening in 1972, it has hosted official dinners and international events.

It is located within 10 minutes of the capital, Male, and Velana International Airport. You can move directly by speedboat because it is close to the airport. Located in the tropical region of North Male Atoll, it is a 5-star all-inclusive resort. Since meals and beverages are included, you can spend time only at the resort.

Kurumba Maldives Resort is located on a coral island. Its excellent underwater environment makes it a great place to enjoy marine activities. The resort’s rooms are diversely equipped among the island’s tropical gardens. You can choose from various rooms, from Superior Rooms to 2-bedroom Villas. You can see the sea from all the rooms. The downside is that it does not have Maldives’ overwater bungalow-style rooms.

As Kurumba Maldives Resort is the first resort in the Maldives that opened long ago, it may show differences compared to newly built resorts. It is not significant in scale, so some guests consider it an advantage to rest quietly. Compared to other resorts, it is also a cost-effective resort.
