Understanding Why Acne Haunts Your Chest and Back

Daniel Kim Views

Acne Management, Does it Occur from Blocked Pores?

Have you ever been bothered by back or chest acne when wearing a v-neck or backless clothes in the summer? We can pay relatively less attention to back and chest acne because they are less exposed than the face. However, if they persist, they can leave scars and hyperpigmentation on the skin, leaving unpleasant traces. So, why does back and chest acne occur differently from facial acne? We will also look into treatment methods.

Why Do Back and Chest Acne Occur?

Acne typically emerges in areas rich in sebaceous glands. There, factors such as increased sebum secretion, pore blockage, proliferation of acne-causing bacteria, and inflammatory responses converge. Back acne, like facial acne, follows a similar pattern and can often be addressed using similar treatment methods.

However, some individuals experience back and chest acne despite having normal or lower sebum secretion on their faces. The cause is often attributed to pore blockage, one of the four primary causes of acne. The back and chest have a thicker stratum corneum than the face, making it difficult for sebum to be discharged, and the inflammation within the sebaceous glands occurs deeper than the face, causing acne.

Back and Chest Acne Treatment 1. Duac Gel Ointment

Duac gel is an ointment type that contains ingredients that prevent keratinization of the pores (BPO). It contains acne medication with antibiotics to target anaerobic bacteria. Therefore, it is better to use it on the back and chest, which have a thick dermis layer and less irritation, rather than sensitive areas like the face. However, individuals using sebum suppressants should exercise caution, as the BPO may cause contact dermatitis.

Back and Chest Acne Treatment 2. Sebum Destruction Procedure Agnes

Agnes selectively destroys only the sebaceous gland by generating heat energy after pricking the sebum area with a tiny coated and insulated needle. Focusing on sebum destruction addresses the root cause of acne. This method minimizes epidermal and skin tissue damage while effectively treating acne.
