The beloved house-elf character, Dobby, from the Harry Potter series, is now at risk of having his grave removed.

Harry Potter fans have been leaving clothing, socks, and other items at the grave site on Freshwater West beach in Pembrokeshire, Wales, sparking concerns about environmental pollution.

Freshwater West Beach has become a popular spot for fans as it features Dobby’s grave from both the novels and films. In the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows series, Dobby sacrifices himself while rescuing Harry Potter and dies from a fatal injury during the battle. The socks symbolize freedom for Dobby and the other house elves in the story. Fans of the series feel it’s only natural to leave messages, socks, clothing, and dolls at the place where Dobby died.

However, local residents have criticized the situation, describing the area as a dirty dumping ground, sparking a debate with the fans. National Trust Wales’s environmental organization has raised concerns and urged tourists to “be mindful that personal items can enter the ocean and pose risks to wildlife.” They announced that Dobby’s grave would be available for visitors but requested that nothing be left behind. They also asked that visitors only take photos. Freshwater West Beach is a legally protected area, home to lizards, rare birds, and large gray seals, and is one of the largest seabird habitats in the world.
