Lionel Messi Hints at Retirement in Latest Interview

wikitree Views

One of the greatest soccer players, Lionel Messi, hinted at his retirement during his recent interview.

In an interview with ESPN Argentina, Messi said, “Inter Miami will be my last club. There’s not much time left.”

Messi is one of the greatest players of all time, shining with eight Ballon d’Or awards. He has achieved everything possible as a soccer player, including four Champions League titles, and ten La Liga titles with Barcelona. He also led Argentina to victory in the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

Messi is preparing for his retirement after transferring to Major League Soccer’s Inter Miami last year. So far, he has won a total of 40 trophies.

Messi said, “I love soccer. I enjoy practicing day-to-day. I know that I don’t have much time left, so I’m trying to enjoy the smallest things. This won’t be possible once I quit playing.”

He remained unresponsive about the 2026 CONCACAF World Cup.

Messi is one of the top players who has played the most in the World Cup. He has played 26 matches over 5 tournaments. If Messi competes in the CONCACAF World Cup, he will set a new record for the most tournament appearances.

However, Messi noted, “I don’t compete in the World Cup just to set records. Record-setting is not my priority. While having a good record is a bonus, I won’t compete in the World Cup just for setting records.”

He added, “For me, playing for the national team is passion, a love. It’s not for record-setting.”
