British media outlet Give Me Sport reported that athletes worldwide fiercely compete for gold medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics. For Olympic participants, winning a gold medal is an honor and comes with significant prize money. Countries with fewer gold medal wins often offer substantial rewards to motivate their athletes.

According to the report, Hong Kong leads with a gold medal prize of $768,000. Israel comes in second with $275,000, followed by Serbia with $218,000. Malaysia offers $214,000, Italy provides $196,000, and Lithuania awards

$182,000. Moldova, Latvia, Hungary, and Bulgaria round out the top ten with prizes of $171,000, $155,000, $154,000, and $139,000, respectively.

Fencer Vivian Kong earned Hong Kong’s first gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, marking a historic achievement. On July 28, the South China Morning Post reported that the MTR railway company honored Kong with a lifetime pass as a token of appreciation for her victory.

Kong secured the gold medal in the women’s individual épée final by defeating France’s Auriane Mallo 13-12 on July 27. This win brings Hong Kong’s total to two gold medals in fencing, following a gold in the men’s individual foil at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
