Controversy erupted following reports that 30-year-old Canadian athlete Alysha Newman, who won a bronze medal in women’s pole vaulting at the 2024 Paris Olympics, is active on an adult content platform.

The Daily Mail reported that Newman generates income by sharing content showcasing her body on the adult subscription platform OnlyFans. This platform, which operates on a subscription model, primarily features adult content. Meanwhile, the German media outlet Die Welt referred to it as “an erotic platform.”

Upon hearing the news, many criticized Newman, questioning whether commodifying her body aligns with Olympic values. Some went as far as to ask if she was a porn star or an athlete.

As the controversy continued, Newman admitted, “I earn money with what I post – you have to log in to find out. It makes me confident, and I feel good about it,”

She clarified that she doesn’t post explicit adult content on OnlyFans but instead shares insights into her training process and diet to connect with her fans. Newman acknowledged that while OnlyFans might carry a certain image, she cannot change that perception.

Newman earned her bronze medal with a vault of 15 feet (4.85 meters) at the Stade de France in Paris. She also made headlines by twerking to celebrate her victory.
