As the issue of women’s abortion rights emerges in the U.S. election, former President Donald Trump has officially expressed his support for the first time for a ban on abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy.

According to AP News, Trump stated in a WABC Radio interview on the 19th (local time) about the spontaneous miscarriage banning period that “people are currently in favor of 15 weeks, and I am considering it from that perspective.”

Trump said the 15-week period “will appear very reasonable, and even the hardliners seem to agree with this number.”

Trump emphasized that exceptions should be made in cases of rape, incest, or when the mother’s life is in danger.

Furthermore, he stated, “Decisions should be made by each state government, not by the federal.”

According to AP News, this is the first time Trump has validated support for a ban on terminations after 15 weeks of pregnancy.

Last month, Trump disproved the news that he had personally expressed an opinion that abortions should be banned after 16 weeks of pregnancy.

Meanwhile, President Joe Biden is emphasizing abortion rights as a point of differentiation from Trump in the 2024 election.

CNN reported in February that Biden criticized Trump as a “person trying to take away the right to abortion (after 16 weeks of pregnancy),” emphasizing that he “will protect the right to abortion.”
