From Abduction to Murder: The Dark Tale of a Korean Victim in Thailand

wikitree Views

The police have altered the charges against a suspect who has been denying his involvement in the murder of a fellow Korean in Pattaya, Thailand. From aiding and abetting murder to robbery and murder, the police have now detained the suspect and sent him to the prosecutors.

Yonhap News

On May 22, the South Gyeongsang Provincial Police Agency’s Detective Mobile Team announced that they had arrested a suspect in the Pattaya murder case on the 12th in Jeongeup, Jeollabuk-do. The suspect was detained on charges of robbery, murder, and abandoning a body and was sent to the Changwon District Prosecutor’s Office.

The suspect has consistently denied the crime during the investigation. As a result, the police only applied the charge of aiding and abetting murder to the suspect on the 14th and applied for an arrest warrant.

After comprehensively considering the evidence received from the Thai police during the detention investigation, the police later applied the charges of robbery, murder, and abandoning a body on the 22nd and sent the suspect to the prosecutors.

The Thai police had told the local media that the three suspects drugged the victim, kidnapped him in a car, and then killed him after beating him when he regained consciousness.

They also suspected that the crime was motivated by money, as money was withdrawn from the victim’s account at least twice on the 7th.

The suspect is accused of being an accomplice in the murder of a Korean victim in his 30s with two other suspects in Pattaya, Thailand on the 3rd, and then abandoning the body in a large plastic container filled with cement in a lake.

Except for the suspect who is currently in custody, one of the two other suspects was arrested by local police at an accommodation in Phnom Penh, Cambodia around 12:10 AM on the 14th. It is currently known that the police are in discussions with the Thai police and others regarding the repatriation of the second suspect to Korea.

The police are still pursuing the third suspect who is on the run.
