Japan’s Prime Minister Fumio Kishida is expected to hold a bilateral meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the G7 summit.

According to Yonhap News on the 8th, it was revealed Kishida is coordinating a plan to hold a bilateral meeting with Zelenskyy during his participation in the G7 summit to be held in Italy from the 13th to the 15th.

The Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported that Japan plans to exchange documents on cooperation between the two countries regarding support for Ukraine’s recovery and economic cooperation at this summit. The face-to-face meeting between Kishida and Zelenskyy comes about a year after their last meeting in May 2023. The Yomiuri Shimbun reported that the documents to be exchanged between the two countries include a provision for bilateral consultations within 24 hours in case of a new act of aggression by Russia. It also said that it would specify the acceleration of negotiations on an information protection agreement that would support the exchange of security information.
