The Biden Administration plans to resume the delivery of bombs to Israel but is putting on hold the supply of 2000-pound (around 907 kg) bombs.

The US is set to begin shipping to Israel the 500-pound bombs that the Biden Administration had previously suspended, but it will hold the delivery of 2000-pound bombs.

Reuters reported on Wednesday that the US plans to resume the supply of 500-pound bombs to Israel but is holding off on large bombs, citing sources.

The source stated, “We are concerned about the final use of the 2000-pound bombs, especially their use in the Rafah operation in the southernmost part of the Gaza Strip. The 500-pound bombs are not a concern for us, so their delivery will proceed as part of the usual procedure.”

In May, the Biden Administration had suspended the delivery of 2000-pound and 500-pound bombs to Israel, citing concerns over Israel pushing into the Rafah, bombing densely populated civilian areas in the Gaza Strip. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu strongly opposed the US decision.

A 2000-pound bomb can penetrate thick concrete and metal and has a wide blast radius. 500-pound bombs target relatively small objects like vehicles, buildings, and armed groups. Nevertheless, they still possess a powerful destructive force, destroying their targets.
