Spectre, Domestic Driving Distance Revealed
From its overall aura to its ultimate status, the Spectre has recently unveiled its domestically certified driving range. This vehicle is a 2-door, 4-passenger coupe model and marks Rolls-Royce’s first electric car. The industry is curious about the performance of this electric car, which carries the label of “luxury.”
In fact, if you’re considering buying this car, the driving range might not be the most critical factor. Instead, how well it maintains the traditional Rolls-Royce essence while being an electric vehicle might be more critical. So, what exactly is this car? Let’s take a closer look.
Astonishing Reduction in Range – What’s the Secret?
First, let’s talk about its performance. The domestic certified driving range of the Spectre has decreased significantly compared to European certification values. However, it demonstrated consistent performance in cold weather. According to environmental agency data, this car received certification for a range of 386 km (240 miles) at room temperature and 380 km (236 miles) in cold weather. This represents a decrease of about 26.9% compared to the WLTP measurement of 520 km (323 miles).
However, the reduction in driving range in cold weather was only 6 km (3.7 miles). Industry experts attribute this minor decrease to Rolls-Royce’s rigorous testing and verification process. In reality, this car covered a total distance of 2.5 million kilometers (1.5 million miles) solely for simulation data collection. Rolls-Royce revealed that it subjected the vehicle to extreme temperatures ranging from -40°C to 50°C during winter and cold weather testing, exposing it to various driving environments, including Arctic ice and deserts, high mountains, and more.
Spectre’s Size and Design Reflecting Its Presence
The Spectre has dimensions of 5,453 mm (214 inches) in length, 2,080 mm (82 inches) in width, 1,599 mm (63 inches) in height, and a wheelbase of 3,210 mm (126 inches). Rolls-Royce stated that the car’s design drew inspiration from various places worldwide, going beyond traditional automotive design.
The front of the vehicle, reminiscent of the Phantom Coupe, features the brand’s largest-ever grille and separate headlights. A striking aspect is the “Spirit of Ecstasy” emblem. Rolls-Royce explained that the design process included 830 hours of work and wind tunnel testing. As a result, the Spectre boasts an incredibly low drag coefficient of only 0.23 Cd, the lowest among the brand’s vehicles.
The lower part of the side profile incorporates the “waft line,” inspired by modern yacht designs. This line, smooth lines, and light surface finishes add to the car’s majestic presence. Notably, the Spectre is the first production 2-door coupe model to feature 23-inch wheels, emphasizing the grandeur of its body.
Ultimate Bespoke Interior of the Spectre
Rolls-Royce has equipped this car’s interior with the most technologically advanced bespoke options. There are 10 color choices, each designed to harmonize with the interior leather color.
Even the dial color of the clock in the center fascia can be customized to match the car’s interior color.
Additionally, the Spectre introduces the first-ever digital bespoke instrument panel from Rolls-Royce, demonstrating seamless integration between digital features and the interior. This technology is fully compatible with the Rolls-Royce “Whispers” app, allowing customers to interact remotely with their vehicles. It can also be used to receive real-time information curated by luxury experts from the brand.
Why Did It Debut in Asia First?
Before its driving range was revealed, this car had already made headlines in Korea. The reason is the timing of its unveiling. Rolls-Royce chose to debut its first electric car, the Spectre, in the Asia-Pacific region, making it the first region to showcase the vehicle.
Many industry experts speculate that the increasing sales volume influenced this decision in the domestic market. Rolls-Royce’s sales in Korea have increased by approximately 45% over the past three years. Rolls-Royce acknowledged the Korean market’s significance during a recent visit, describing it as “one of the most important markets for Rolls-Royce.”
The starting price for the Spectre in Korea is KRW 622 million (about $470K). The popularity of this car can be seen from its pre-orders. Although the exact number is undisclosed, industry sources suggest that all pre-order units in Korea have already been sold. A Rolls-Royce spokesperson stated at an event, “Even if you order now, you can receive the vehicle in 2025.”
Editor’s Comment
The delivery of the Spectre to Korean customers is scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of this year. The official launch is expected to take place around the same time. With the release of several high-priced electric cars scheduled for the second half of this year, can the Spectre, which has a significant backlog in deliveries, continue to be famous?
