The lyrics of the pre-release song by the group (G)I-DLE have drawn criticism for being ‘suggestive’ and ‘inappropriate for underage audiences.’

At 10 PM, the music video for ‘Wife’, the title track of (G)I-DLE’s second full-length album ‘2’, was pre-released through their official YouTube channel.

In the music video, (G)I-DLE showcased a wide range of concepts, wearing emerald and white wigs and sporty style.

‘Wife’ is a Bubblegum Bass-based pop track with a unique and sophisticated sound, and member Soyeon participated in the lyrics, composition, and arrangement.

Considering that their fans are mostly teenagers, the somewhat explicit lyrics have stirred controversy.
In fact, (G)I-DLE received a lot of support from teenagers, winning first place in the ‘Song of the Year’ in 2023.

The first verse includes lyrics like

That’s right, I knew it, so I baked a cake

But that’s not all, eat the cherry on top as well

Carefully kiss, and then boldly devour

Show me and let me hear how it tastes”

The second verse contains metaphorical lyrics such as,

“Oh, clean up every nook and cranny

Your hands don’t touch the delicate lips

From head to toe, just chop, chop, chop

If you’ve learned it then give it a try and get on top

If you’re good, then I’ll sing a cool song

And dance beautifully like a mermaid in the water

If you’re good, then I’ll be full

And because I’ll be feeling good, I’ll swallow even deeper”

Others also sparked a debate with comments like, “The lyrics are explicit but new”, “They’re all adults, what’s the problem”, and “It feels like they’re deliberately provoking, it seems like they’re trying to get some attention with their title song “.

Meanwhile, (G)I-DLE’s second full-length album ‘2’ will be released on the 29th.
