Seventeen (S.Coups, Jeonghan, Joshua, Jun, Hoshi, Wonwoo, Woozi, The8, Mingyu, DK, Seungkwan, Vernon, Dino) solidified their global music market dominance by topping the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry’s (IFPI) 2023 Global Album Chart.
According to the results released on IFPI’s official website, Seventeen’s 10th mini album, “FML”, soared to the top of the IFPI 2023 Global Album Chart. This impressive feat placed them above albums that dominated major charts throughout last year, including Taylor Swift’s “Midnights” and “1989 (Taylor’s Version)” and Morgan Wallen’s “One Thing At A Time”.
Seventeen, who entered the ‘Top 10’ charts for the first time in 2022 with their 4th full-length album “Face the Sun” (ranked 7th), claimed the top spot in just a year. In addition, their 11th mini album, “SEVENTEENTH HEAVEN”, ranked 8th, solidifying their global music influence with two albums in the Top 10.
IFPI represents over 8,000 global record companies and releases insights into the music industry annually. Its Global Album Chart combines physical album sales, digital downloads, and audio/video streaming figures, providing a comprehensive ranking of best-selling albums worldwide. The federation is considered a key player in indicating the year’s top performers.
Seventeen solidified their position as a top K-POP group in 2023, shattering records and amassing over 16 million cumulative album sales. Their 10th mini album, “FML”, was released in April and set a new K-POP record with over 6.27 million copies sold, while “SEVENTEENTH HEAVEN”, their 11th mini album, achieved unprecedented success exceeding 5 million sales in its first week.
“Seventeen’s “FML” is the recipient of this year’s IFPI Global Album Award, a testament to its remarkable global success,” declared Louis Morrison, Director of IFPI Global Charts. He further commended the group, “Seventeen continues to push boundaries with their unique concepts, captivating performances, and undeniable talent.” Director Morrison concluded with, “Congratulations to Seventeen and their dedicated fans, Carats, worldwide!”
Seventeen’s rise to K-POP icon status, with over 10 million albums sold annually, stems from their musical versatility and unique narrative. In “FML” and “SEVENTEENTH HEAVEN”, they broadened their sound, effortlessly navigating from old-school hip-hop (“F*ck My Life”) to Jersey club (“Super”) and even cheerful soul-funk (“God of Music”). Their self-produced hits, where members compose, write, and produce, perfectly align with Seventeen’s image of unrelenting energy, even in the face of adversity.
Seventeen’s immense popularity extends globally, fueled by their captivating world tours and fan events. Last year alone, they connected with over a million fans through 23 performances, including SEVENTEEN in CARAT LAND, SEVENTEEN 2023 JAPAN FANMEETING LOVE, and their worldwide SEVENTEEN TOUR FOLLOW.
They will hold their encore tour SEVENTEEN TOUR FOLLOW AGAIN at Incheon Asiad Main Stadium on March 30-31, Yanmar Stadium Nagai in Osaka on May 18-19, and at Nissan Stadium in Kanagawa on May 25-26.
