Apple’s CEO Tim Cook Hits the Ground in China: Here’s Why

Daniel Kim Views

Tim Cook of Apple has finally made a personal visit due to a slowdown in sales in China.

Apple CEO Tim Cook met with suppliers, including Biel Crystal, on the 20th as sales in China decreased, emphasizing China’s importance in the supply chain.

Cook revealed on his SNS post that he enjoyed a local breakfast while walking along the historic Bund in Shanghai with Chinese actor Jung Kai.

However, he did not disclose any other plans to visit China.

According to China Daily, Cook met with Wang Chuanfu, the founder and president of Apple supplier BYD, and officials from Lens Technology at their Shanghai office, stating, “There is no supply chain more important to us than China.”

Cook’s visit to Shanghai comes as Apple faces a decrease in iPhone sales in China and intensifies competition with Chinese competitors like Huawei following the announcement of a new store opening in the country’s financial center.

Last year, Cook visited China, Apple’s third-largest market, at least twice. During the same period, he visited Beijing to tour an Apple store and attend a Chinese development forum.
