Director Bong Joon Ho commented on his upcoming film Mickey 17.

Director Bong attended the CinemaCon event held in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, on the 9th (local time). Robert Pattinson, who stars in Mickey 17, co-chairman and CEO of Warner Bros. Michael De Luca, and Pamela Abdy, among others, also attended the event. Director Bong caused laughter with his cute and playful appearance alongside Robert Pattinson on the red carpet.

The trailer for Mickey 17 was also revealed for the first time that day. Director Bong described the film as “a story of an ordinary man saving the world,” introducing it as a quirky and thrilling movie. He also expressed joy at presenting the trailer on a large screen, not a mobile phone, and receiving great cheers.

He also explained why he changed the movie’s title to Mickey 17 through a presentation. He said, “The film is based on the science fiction novel Mickey 7. I changed it to 17 because I killed him 10 more times.” He praised Pattinson’s casting, saying, “He has a crazy look in his eyes,” and, “I thought he could handle all the various transformations of Mickey in the film, and he is a creative person.”

Mickey 17 is based on the novel Mickey 7 by American author Edward Ashton and tells the story of an expendable crew member sent to colonize the icy world of Niflheim. The film features Robert Pattinson, Naomi Ackie, Steven Yeun, Toni Collette, and Mark Ruffalo, with Director Bong writing the screenplay and directing.

Andrew Cripps, President of International Distribution at Warner Bros. Pictures Group, said, “Director Bong’s creativity always takes us beyond audience expectations. Mickey 17 will also surprise everyone with its original story, characters, unpredictable developments, humor, and excellent production quality.”

Mickey 17 is set to premiere in South Korea on January 28, 2025, marking the world’s first release.
