There are rising concerns that North Korea continues to cooperate with Iran in the field of ballistic missiles and nuclear technology, as North Korea has sent a delegation to Iran. It is unusual for high-ranking North Korean officials to visit Iran.

According to the Korean Central News Agency, on the 24th, a delegation from the External Economic Relations Minister, led by Comrade Yun Jong Ho, departed for Iran the day before (23rd).

Given that this is a meeting between the two countries that support Russia in the Ukraine-Russia war, the question of cooperation in the field of ballistic missiles and nuclear technology in the anti-US camp continues.

Recently, there have been observations that not only economic but also military cooperation based on pro-Russia could be intensified with the visit, as they are stepping up arms sales and support for Russia. Iran’s main medium-range ballistic missile (MRBM), Shahab-3, is based on North Korea’s Nodong-1 missile, and Iran’s Khorramshahr ballistic missile is known to be linked to North Korea’s Musudan.

From July to August last year to February this year, North Korea sent over 6,700 containers to Russia, the contents of which are estimated to be over 3 million rounds if they are 152mm shells and over 500,000 rounds if they are 122mm howitzer shells.

In 2019, the then-North Korean vice chairman of the Supreme People’s Assembly, Pak Chol Min, visited Iran, met with the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, and discussed cooperation between the two sides.
