A new claim has emerged regarding a medical student who is accused of murdering his girlfriend of the same age with a weapon.

Recently, a claim has emerged regarding the case of a medical student who allegedly killed his girlfriend with a weapon on the rooftop of a building near Gangnam Station. The claim argues that this is a case where “excessive elitism where the individual could not tolerate being rejected and turned his anger into violence.” This news was reported through the Chosun Ilbo on the 9th.

The medical student was known to have enrolled in a prestigious medical school after achieving a perfect score on the college entrance exam. He also made his face known by conducting interviews with the media and local governments right after the college entrance exam ended.

However, some have argued that his educational background contributed to the crime.

According to the media, after enrolling in medical school, the student took pride in his school and major. He is reported to have posted many university-related photos, such as university admission letters and school buildings, on social media platforms like KakaoTalk and Instagram. There were also photos of him wearing a jacket with the school logo while traveling abroad.

Concerning this, profiler Bae Sang Hoon stated to the media, “This is a case where a person with excessive elite consciousness couldn’t bear the fact that they were abandoned, and their anger turned violent.”

Professor Kwak Dae Kyung of Dongguk University’s Police and Justice College also analyzed, “The ex-partner, being a complete individual, had every right to make a different choice, but he could not accept it and became obsessed, leading to extreme behavior.”

Profiler Bae Sang Hoon also described this incident as a type of expressive crime.

In an interview with YTN on the 8th, he argued, “This is a psychology where he wanted people to recognize his revenge against those who left him, betrayed him, and abandoned him. This type of case differs from other goal-oriented cases. I believe he had no intention of committing suicide because if he had, he would have died with his girlfriend.”

He also said that in the case of expressive crimes, there are many cases where bustling areas like Gangnam Station are chosen as the crime scene.

He explained, “Places like Gangnam Station have specific spatial characteristics and peculiarities that are appealing to perpetrators of expressive crimes. They go to similar places, use similar methods, or adopt similar images because they know that it will get them more recognition and fit the image they want to project. This tendency is commonly seen in expressive crimes.”
