Russian Ban Hits Major U.S. Media: WSJ, NYT, and WP Reporters Among Those Barred

The Russian Foreign Ministry has banned 92 individuals from entering the country, including American journalists, lawyers, and representatives from major defense industry firms.

Russian Foreign Ministry released a list of banned Americans on Telegram. The list includes 14 reporters from the Wall Street Journal, 5 from the New York Times, and 4 from the Washington Post.

Evan Gershkovich, a Wall Street Journal reporter who was detained for 16 months and recently released as part of a prisoner exchange, criticized the ban as “ridiculous,” calling it an attack on press freedom.

The Russian Foreign Ministry stated that this move is a response to what it describes as “Russia hatred” exhibited by the Biden administration, which has imposed extensive sanctions on Russian politicians, entrepreneurs, scientists, and journalists.

The Ministry further warned the United States of the inevitable consequences of hostile actions, such as directly encouraging Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to commit acts of aggression and terrorism or attempting to interfere in the internal affairs of the Russian Federation.

A Wall Street Journal spokesperson commented, “The Putin regime is farcically consistent in its all-out assault on free press and truth.”
