Man Loses Most of His Penis After Filler Procedure—Doctor Blames the Patient

In a harrowing tale that has caught the attention of many, a man faced devastating consequences after undergoing a penile filler procedure in Goyang, South Korea. Initially excited about the treatment, he was blindsided by an outcome that led to the amputation of 80% of his genitalia.

Before the procedure, he consulted with a doctor introduced as the deputy director, who advised him to proceed with the penile filler injections. When he expressed concerns due to his diabetes and history of heart disease, the deputy director reassured him, stating, “There are almost no side effects, and it’s safe for those with underlying conditions,” strongly recommending the procedure. However, when he went for the treatment, it was performed by a different director, not the deputy director.

Just two days later, he was in agony. The injection site was painful, bleeding, and blistered. When he reached out to the clinic for help, the deputy director dismissed his worries, comparing the blisters to those from military service. “No need to worry,” he said, but the pain only escalated. When he returned to the clinic four days later, the advice was to drain the blisters and apply ointment. Yet, nothing improved.

Desperate for relief, he sought treatment at a higher-level hospital, where doctors diagnosed him with severe necrosis caused by excessive filler injections. He required emergency surgery before his condition deteriorated further, resulting in the amputation of 80% of his genitalia. He stated, “The necrosis had progressed to the urethra, and both the plastic surgeon and urologist said amputation was unavoidable.”

The cause of the complications was identified as excessive filler injection, and doctors concluded that his condition was irreversible. However, the doctor who performed the procedure attempted to evade responsibility, claiming the patient sought treatment at another hospital independently. He offered a settlement of 10 million won (approximately $7,500), which the victim rejected in favor of suing the doctor instead.

Police and prosecutors’ investigations revealed that the deputy director who recommended the procedure was a nurse, not a licensed physician. As a result, the first-instance court sentenced the doctor to one year in prison and imposed a fine of 1 million won (approximately $747). Meanwhile, the nurse received a suspended sentence and a fine of 500,000 won (approximately $374).

The man still requires multiple additional surgeries and expressed outrage that the clinic’s director and the nurse continue to operate under a new name and location.
