Hyundai’s high-performance EV, the Ioniq 5 N, won two US Electric Vehicle Awards awards. It was evaluated as comparable to high-performance internal combustion engine models.

On Wednesday, The Drive, an American automotive media outlet, announced that it had selected Hyundai Motor Company’s high-performance electric vehicle, the Ioniq 5 N, as The Drive’s Best EV of 2024. This award is the highest honor given to an electric vehicle model. Last year, the Ioniq 6 was selected as the best EV.

In particular, the IONIQ 5 N won two awards: The Drive’s Best EV of 2024 and The Drive’s Performance EV of 2024. The Drive praised the IONIQ 5 N: “It is handily the most fun electric car I’ve driven so far, and yes, mostly because it does not feel like an electric car.” It also implements the powertrain of an internal combustion engine to a creepy degree in every aspect, including gear shifting and engine noise.

The Ioniq 5 N is the first high-performance all-wheel drive electric sports car developed based on the Ioniq 5, an electric vehicle exclusively for Hyundai Motors. The maximum output is approximately 650 horsepower (478 kW), which surpasses the Kia EV6 GT (585 horsepower), the highest-performance electric vehicle of the Hyundai Motor Group. It takes 3.5 seconds to reach 100 km/h (62 mph) from a standstill. If you use the N Green Boost (NGB), a booster function that instantly increases performance, it is shortened to 3.4 seconds. If you only look at the numbers, it is faster than the Lamborghini Urus.

Meanwhile, Hyundai’s high-performance brand N was created to bring the inherent fun of driving to everyday life. The N brand is divided into high-performance N and semi-high-performance N Lines.
