The Mazda RX-7 Group B rally car is up for auction. In the 1980s, many European brands achieved remarkable Group B rally series results. Mazda made a name for itself by producing its own Group B vehicles. This time, the RX-7 that is up for auction is one of only 19 vehicles produced.

During Group B, European brands such as Audi, Lancia, MG, and Renault achieved strong results and produced legendary rallying models. Mazda launched a Group B car based on the first generation RX-7, and unsurprisingly, the model went relatively unnoticed compared to its competitors at the time.

The Mazda RX-7 Group B rally car has a 1.3-liter biturbo 13B twin-rotor engine, rear-wheel drive, a five-speed manual transmission, and a limited-slip differential. This sets it apart from other vehicles of the time equipped with turbochargers and all-wheel drive systems.

In addition, this car’s engine delivers optimum performance through the Weber 51 IDA carburetor and dual electronic ignition system and boasts further improved output using peripheral intake ports. The engine location has been moved back about 100 mm (4 inches) to improve handling and further enhance driving performance.
