Volkswagen is unveiling a low-cost electric vehicle priced around €20,000 (approximately $21,600), according to a report by The Verge.

While Volkswagen has not disclosed the official name, a recently released teaser video revealed the name “ID.1” for this upcoming affordable EV.

The ID.1 is designed as Volkswagen’s entry-level electric offering, featuring a five-door hatchback style. Volkswagen claims the ID.1 will deliver a premium feel and cutting-edge digital technology at a competitive price point. The vehicle’s distinctive boxy silhouette sets it apart visually. A single-motor, front-wheel-drive configuration will operate it.

The ID.1 is slated for unveiling in the first half of next year, with its concept car debut scheduled for next month. Volkswagen plans to kick off trial production of the ID.1 in the second half of this year.

As part of its broader electric vehicle portfolio, Volkswagen aims to expand its EV lineup with nine new models by 2027. In addition to ID.1, the company is developing another model tentatively named ID.2all.
