BMW has unveiled the X7 Nishiki Lounge Concept, a bold reimagining of the luxury SUV that blends Japanese artistry with the brand’s advanced technology. The model, described as “the pinnacle of the highest-end SUV that BMW can show,” challenges traditional SUV design and offers a sensory journey from its exterior to its interior.
Exterior Design: A Canvas of the Night Sky
The exterior of the X7 Nishiki Lounge Concept makes a striking first impression. Finished in BMW Individual Velvet Blue with Space Silver accents, it creates an ethereal effect reminiscent of stars sparkling in the night sky. The integration of Crystal Light headlamps and the iconic illuminated grille further enhances its presence, particularly in low-light settings, establishing the vehicle as a commanding figure both day and night.
Interior Design: A Fusion of Japanese Craftsmanship and Modern Elegance
But the real highlight is the interior design. The space, which combines traditional Japanese craftsmanship with a modern sensibility, looks like a work of art rather than a vehicle.
The interior’s most striking feature is the foil trim made by Rakugei Kobo. Traditional lacquering techniques create the image of a starry night sky, and the colors subtly change depending on the lighting and angle, providing an emotional experience beyond simple design.
Also, the Japanese Kusuka fabric and special foil are combined for the center console to create a delicate pattern that reflects light and sparkles like stars. The unique soft curves of the leather seats are emphasized, and the design gradually becomes thinner, further enhancing the seating comfort.
The floor mats are also special. Using the traditional Japanese dyeing technique of Ikat, the pattern of the universe was shaped. With the addition of unique textures, the entire interior was completed as a single art space.
Performance: A Balance of Luxury and Power
BMW did not reveal the specific performance of this concept car, but experts say that it is likely to be based on the X7 xDrive40d model.
It is expected to be equipped with a 3.0-liter 6-cylinder diesel engine, generating a maximum output of 347 horsepower and a maximum torque of 73.4 kg m. The acceleration of reaching 100 km/h (62 mph) from a standstill in just 5.9 seconds also shows that this vehicle is not just a luxury model but a performance model.
A Glimpse into the Future of BMW’s Luxury SUV Design
The BMW X7 Nishiki Lounge Concept is more than just a car; it’s a statement of where BMW’s future luxury SUVs might be heading. Combining traditional Japanese techniques with cutting-edge automotive technology, the concept offers a new direction for bespoke, customized luxury vehicles. While there are no official plans for commercialization, this concept hints at how BMW could blend artistry and advanced engineering in its upcoming models, creating a new standard for sensory and artistic experiences in luxury SUVs.
