As police investigate a high school exam paper theft case involving a student’s parent and a former teacher, officials now believe the pair had been stealing papers since 2023, shortly after the student enrolled at the school.
The Andong Police Station is currently investigating the 18-year-old student who allegedly benefited from the exam paper theft. When summoned for questioning on Wednesday, she denied any involvement in the crime.
The high school has decided to expel the student and nullify all her test scores. The student, a senior, had reportedly been at the top of her class since enrolling.
According to local news outlet TV Chosun on Thursday, the teacher confessed to investigators that she had been involved in the exam thefts since the student was a freshman in 2023. The suspect admitted to either stealing the papers or photographing them to pass on to the parent.
The 31-year-old teacher, who had worked at the school until February of last year, continued to break into the school to steal papers even after her departure. Both the teacher and the 48-year-old mother of the student have been arrested. Additionally, a male school employee who aided in the break-in and deleted security footage has been taken into custody.
