The “Truth Investigation Group Sherlock” recently reported that a university hospital doctor who performed an in vitro fertilization procedure with the wrong sperm has gone into hiding, leading to a devastating family crisis. The father, who was the victim, has been confirmed to have attempted a drastic choice.

The absurd incident came to light in 2022 when it was discovered that the genes of a child born from in vitro fertilization at Chung-Ang University Hospital did not match the father’s.

In their 50s and residing in Hanam City, Gyeonggi Province, the affected couple had a son in 1997 after receiving in vitro fertilization treatment at the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of Chung-Ang University Hospital in 1996. However, a genetic test conducted 26 years later revealed that the father was not the biological parent.

According to media reports, the person who performed the in vitro fertilization was Professor Lee. The couple visited a pediatrician for a hepatitis antibody test for their son around 2002. Both parents were type B, but their son’s blood type was A.

When questioned, Professor Lee falsely attributed the discrepancy to a potential blood type mutation common in children born through in vitro fertilization, a statement the couple accepted as truth.

2018, when Professor Lee retired, a new attending professor took over. Then, something unexpected happened. They heard from a nurse working with the new professor that their son couldn’t have type A blood when both parents were type B. The new professor also looked perplexed. Sensing something was off, Mr. A contacted Professor Lee for clarification. Professor Lee ignored the messages, avoided phone calls, and eventually blocked all contact forms. Even after several months, Professor Lee remained unresponsive and avoided any communication attempts, including those from the hospital.

As Mr. A continued to protest, Chung-Ang University Hospital told him to do as he pleased since Professor Lee had gone into hiding. Mr. A finally paid out of his pocket for a genetic test and scientifically discovered that his son was not his biological child.

In December 2022, filled with anger and resentment, Mr. A filed a lawsuit for damages against Chung-Ang University Hospital and Professor Lee. However, instead of accepting responsibility, the hospital attempted to shift blame by suggesting the possibility of Mr. A’s wife having had an affair and conceiving the child naturally. They also expressed willingness to pay about $8,400 as a settlement.

In an interview with the media, Mr. A expressed his anger that Professor Lee had been playing with the couple since 2002, knowing all the truth. He was also furious at the shameless behavior of Chung-Ang University Hospital, which was trying to avoid any responsibility.

According to the media, Mr. A left a letter hoping his final choice would become a sharp arrow that would pierce Chung-Ang University Hospital and Professor Lee and attempted to end his life on Christmas in 2023.
