Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin announced during a regular briefing that “President Xi Jinping extends condolences on behalf of the Chinese government and people to Vice President Mohsen Mansouri and the family of Raisi, who died in a helicopter crash.”

According to Wang, Xi praised Raisi for his “significant contribution to maintaining Iran’s security and stability and promoting national development and prosperity” since taking office. He added that Raisi “actively worked to solidify and develop a comprehensive strategic partnership with China.”

Furthermore, he stated, “Raisi’s unfortunate death is a great loss for the Iranian people, and China has lost a good friend.” He emphasized, “The Chinese government and people cherish the traditional friendship between China and Iran and believe that through joint efforts, the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Iran will continue to strengthen and develop.”

Wang mentioned after conveying Xi’s message of condolences, “China also deeply mourns the death of Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian. We sincerely extend our condolences to his family.” He continued, “China expressed concern and worry to Iran after the accident. We will continue to provide all necessary support and cooperation to Iran.” He further stated, “China will support the Iranian government in maintaining independence, stability, and development and will deepen the comprehensive strategic partnership with Iran.”

According to diplomatic sources in Beijing, on that day, Iranian Vice President Mohsen Mansouri issued a statement announcing Raisi’s death in the helicopter crash. A senior Iranian official also informed Reuters that all nine passengers, including Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian, had died in the incident.
