Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning confirmed at a regular briefing on the 2nd that a Chinese citizen was kidnapped and killed in the Philippines. Upon verification, one Chinese individual was a victim, and the Chinese embassy in the Philippines has been in close contact with the Philippines government since the incident.

“We have urged the Philippine authorities to take effective measures to ensure the safety of Chinese citizens in the Philippines. We are supporting the victim’s family in handling the aftermath,” she added. Mao also stated that the Foreign Ministry would monitor the case’s progress of relevant departments and guide the follow-up work.

Previously, Xinjing News reported that two Chinese individuals who had been on a business trip to the Philippines last month were kidnapped and killed. The reports mentioned that the victims’ families paid a substantial ransom of 3 million yuan (approximately $412,000) to the kidnappers.

However, Mao’s official announcement confirmed only one victim in this incident. She did not verify the ransom payment, suggesting that the reports about the ransom may be inaccurate.
