Apple’s smartphone sales in China for the first quarter of this year have reportedly dropped 19% compared to last year.
According to data from market research firm Counterpoint, cited by Reuters on the 23rd (local time), iPhone shipments in China for the first quarter plummeted by 19%, marking the worst performance since 2020.
Apple’s market share dropped from 19.7% last year to 15.7%, causing it to fall to third place behind Vivo and Huawei’s budget brand Honor as the top smartphone seller in China.
Huawei’s market share jumped from 9.3% to 15.5% over the same period, rising to fourth place. China is Apple’s third-largest market globally, accounting for about 17% of total sales from October to December last year.
Ivan Lam, an analyst at Counterpoint, said, “Huawei’s rise has directly impacted the iPhone, which belongs to the premium product range,” adding, “The demand for iPhone replacements was also weaker than last year.”
