The iPhone 15 emerged as the best-selling smartphone in the third quarter of this year. According to Counterpoint Research on Monday, Apple’s base model, iPhone 15, topped the list as the most popular smartphone in Q3 2023.

The iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 15 Pro claimed the second and third spots, respectively, with the iPhone 15 series dominating all three top positions. The previous-generation iPhone 14 came in at 8th.

Samsung’s Galaxy A series took the fourth through seventh spots, with the Galaxy A14 4G and 5G models in 4th and 5th, and the Galaxy A35 5G and Galaxy A05 series in 6th and 7th, respectively.

Xiaomi also secured a place in the top 10 with its Redmi 13C 4G model at 9th. Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S24 rounded out the top 10, maintaining its position for the third consecutive quarter. This is the first time since 2018 that a Galaxy S series device has broken into the top 10 in Q3. Industry experts attribute this success to effective marketing campaigns highlighting Galaxy AI features.

While Apple saw a slight decline in its share of the top 10, Samsung boosted its presence with five models, edging out Apple by one model. Despite Samsung’s strong showing in the budget segment, Apple still leads in average selling price (ASP), driven by high demand for Pro models, which account for half of its iPhone sales.

Counterpoint Research highlighted the appeal of premium features in emerging markets, where demand for the latest iPhones has fueled Apple’s premium sales. Both Apple and Samsung are reinforcing their premium positioning, focusing on “Apple Intelligence” and “Galaxy AI” features to sustain their rankings in the high-end market segment.
