Mattel has been sued over allegations of attaching an adult website link to a children’s doll.

On Tuesday, Mattel was sued by the mother of a child in South Carolina for mistakenly including a link to an adult website on the packaging of a doll related to the movie Wicked.

According to a class-action lawsuit filed in the U.S. District Court in Los Angeles, Holly Ricketson purchased the Wicked doll for her daughter, who then accessed an adult entertainment website through the link attached to the doll.

Ricketson stated that her daughter showed her disturbing photos from the website, which left them both horrified.

She expressed emotional distress and stated that she would not have purchased the doll had she known about the issue. She also noted that although Mattel recalled the doll on November 11, it did not offer refunds.

Through the lawsuit, Ricketson seeks at least $5 million in damages for all U.S. purchasers of the Wicked doll with the incorrect link on its packaging.

Mattel faces allegations of negligence, selling unfit products, and violating California consumer protection laws.

Mattel explained that it had intended for consumers to be redirected to the WickedMovie website but mistakenly input a similar address for an adult website.

The doll is recommended for children aged four and above.

Mattel’s stock price fell 0.77%, closing at $18.77.
