Mercedes-Benz has unveiled a teaser image of its next-generation electric minivan, hinting at a bold move into the luxury minivan market. This new model will be built on the VAN to continue the V-Class legacy.EA architecture. This electric platform, revealed in May 2023, is designed to support a range of vehicles, including the upcoming mid-sized luxury van, which will be sold in the U.S. and other key markets.

The VAN.EA architecture is a modular, scalable system that separates the private luxury van segment from the commercial premium van segment. Mercedes plans to offer a wide array of private vans, from family-friendly models to exclusive VIP shuttles and spacious limousines, creating a new luxury van category with an expanded product lineup.

Sleek Design Focuses on Curves and Comfort

The teaser image of the new Mercedes-Benz electric van shows off a sleek, curved exterior, moving away from the traditional boxy design seen in many vans. The teaser hints at a distinctive hood ornament and eye-catching lighting elements, suggesting that the van will combine a modern, luxurious feel with improved aerodynamic performance. This shift to a more flowing design aims to enhance both the driving experience and efficiency.

Mercedes-Benz’s 2023 van plan also indicates that the new electric van will have various wheelbases and seating configurations. The lineup is expected to include customizable cargo options, and there are rumors of medium- and large-sized camper vans being part of the offering.

Advanced Tech with a Future-Focused Driving Experience

The upcoming electric van from Mercedes-Benz will likely offer single—and dual-motor options, rear- and all-wheel drive configurations, and two different battery capacities. It will be equipped with the latest MB.OS operating system will support an 800V charging system for faster power management and a 22kW AC charger for quicker charging during long trips.

Regarding driving assistance, the van will feature a Level 2 system, which provides the driver with various convenience and safety functions. Mercedes-Benz is also looking toward the future, with Level 3 autonomous driving expected by 2030 and potential plans for Level 4 systems aimed at robotaxis. This forward-thinking design aligns with the company’s push for more sustainable, commercial-grade autonomous vehicles.

Part of Mercedes-Benz’s Broader Electrification Push

Mercedes-Benz’s new electric vans are a crucial part of its electrification strategy. The company plans to convert 50% of its van sales to electric within five years. This new model, featuring cutting-edge electric technology, will target the luxury private and premium commercial van segments.

The next-generation electric van will premiere in the spring of 2025 and officially launch in 2026. While Mercedes’ Metris model struggled to gain traction in the U.S. market and was discontinued in late 2023, the new electric van could be a fresh start for its U.S. van offerings if it can meet consumer demand.
