A recent survey unveiled significant political and behavioral differences between users of the social media platforms BlueSky and Threads.

On Thursday, Business Insider reported on CivicScience’s research, highlighting the two platforms’ contrasting user bases. The survey, published in early December, included 12,188 Threads users and 5,431 BlueSky users.

According to the findings, nearly half of BlueSky users identified as Democratic Party supporters. In contrast, only 34% of Threads users supported either the Democratic Party or were politically independent.

Moreover, BlueSky users were found to be more politically active overall, with about three-quarters reporting heightened stress levels following the presidential election. On the other hand, 33% of daily Threads users stated that their stress levels decreased after Donald Trump’s victory.

CivicScience CEO John Dick commented that the sharp left-leaning bias of BlueSky’s user base is unsurprising, given the surge in its user numbers immediately after the election.

Both platforms experienced substantial growth in their user bases following the presidential election. BlueSky’s monthly active users (MAU) surpassed 25 million, while Meta’s Threads exceeded 300 million MAU.
