The New Sonet, Kia’s facelift model, was launched in the Indian sports utility vehicle (SUV) market in January this year. Eleven months after its launch, it has surpassed 100,000 units in sales. Local drivers continue to choose it because its product quality is recognized for enhancing advanced functions such as the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS).

According to Kia India Sales Corporation, the new Sonet sold over 100,000 units on Tuesday, about 11 months after its launch in January. It has recorded an average of over 10,000 units sold per month. By powertrain, gasoline models accounted for 76%, while diesel models accounted for 24%. In particular, it is noteworthy that 79% of all sales were equipped with sunroofs.

Sonet is an Indian strategic model launched on September 18, 2020. Along with Seltos and Carnival, it is leading the growth of Kia’s business in India. In April of this year, it set a new milestone by selling 400,000 units in just three years and six months since its launch. The secret to Sonet’s popularity is its sophisticated exterior and advanced convenience features. It also has an excellent price-performance ratio, such as driving distance.

The new Sonet offers six powertrain options, expanding the range of choices for local consumers. It also has 15 standard safety features and over 70 connected vehicle functions. Above all, it is competitive in that maintenance costs are up to 16% lower than similar models.

The popularity of Sonet in India is expected to continue for now. Accordingly, Kia is pushing forward with a plan to expand its showrooms in India to 700 by the end of the year to increase customer contact points. Currently, Kia operates 522 showrooms in 236 cities in India and fills the gap by providing services to areas services without showrooms.

Hardeep Singh Brar, President of Sales and Marketing at Kia India, attributed the success of the new Sonet to Kia’s efforts to understand customer needs and enhance their driving experience. He added that this sales milestone encourages them to continue delivering vehicles that meet customer expectations and build on the trust they have established with their customers.
