Tesla Under Fire for Covert Cybertruck Battery Replacements Without Consumer Notification

Tesla is once again at the center of controversy, this time regarding the Cybertruck’s battery replacements. According to multiple reports, including CleanTechnica, Tesla has been secretly swapping out the 4680 battery packs in Cybertrucks that have been in service for months without notifying the vehicle owners. The 4680 battery, a key feature of the Cybertruck, raises concerns about transparency and customer communication.

Tesla probably did this to protect its brand image. If it had conducted an official recall, it would have been a hot topic in various media outlets, so it seems to have used a roundabout method to hide the battery defect. However, as if there were no eternal secrets, several Cybertruck owners revealed this issue.

Cybertruck owners left in the dark about battery replacements

One owner reported that a few minor issues were addressed when they took their Cybertruck in for its first service. However, the service records indicated that the high-voltage battery had been replaced due to a “core collapse caused by a cell side dent.” Another owner, who brought their Cybertruck in for a side mirror repair, discovered that the service estimate included replacing the high-voltage battery despite no battery issues or error messages beforehand.

In response, Tesla stated that the battery cells were proactively replaced due to potential issues, though it did not specify the nature of the problems. Many media outlets believe that Tesla is essentially conducting a recall without officially labeling it as such to avoid negative publicity and the potential drop in Cybertruck sales. A formal recall would also entail significant costs for replacing and inspecting all affected batteries.

The most troubling aspect of this situation is that Tesla did not inform the owners about the battery replacements. Battery-related issues can be risky for electric vehicles, and the lack of transparency has left many owners feeling misled and frustrated. Consumers have expressed outrage over the secrecy, deeming it absurd and irresponsible not to disclose such critical repairs.

Tesla faces backlash for covert battery replacements

There has also been ongoing discussion about Tesla’s 4680 battery technology used in the Cybertruck. While it’s unclear if all Cybertrucks are equipped with this battery, there is growing concern about potential defects. Tesla has faced challenges when commercializing its battery technology, and this latest incident has only fueled consumer anxieties.

The situation has sparked a backlash online, with many questioning Tesla’s handling of the matter. As the company continues to push the Cybertruck as a key product, how it manages this issue and addresses consumer concerns will likely play a crucial role in its reputation and future sales.
