According to Inside EV on Monday, the discount announced by Tesla is available to customers who use self-driving functions among Tesla insurance subscribers. In addition, the maximum discount rate can be applied only if more than 50% of the total driving distance is driven in self-driving mode.

Tesla’s insurance discount policy is seen as a move to promote the safety of autonomous driving technology. Media reports indicate that while Tesla claims its self-driving software is safe, experts remain skeptical. They point out that Tesla’s self-driving function often fails to recognize road conditions, necessitating constant user monitoring.

Further reports suggest that Tesla’s insurance signals that autonomous driving could reduce accident risks and likely serve as a marketing strategy to promote its technology and increase its user base.

Meanwhile, Tesla is strengthening its self-driving capabilities and trying to collect more data through them, which is expected to play a significant role in Tesla’s future strategy.
