Suzuki has revealed the much-anticipated Jimny Nomad, a long-wheelbase version of its popular three-door mini SUV. Unveiled on January 31, 2025, the Jimny Nomad is making waves with its rugged design, reminiscent of the iconic Mercedes-Benz G-Class, and its affordability, priced at around $17,000.

Larger, More Practical, Yet Retaining Off-Road Capabilities

The Jimny Nomad is a long-wheelbase model based on the 3-door Jimny.

Its body size is 3,890mm (153.1 inches) long and 2,590 mm (102.0 inches) wide, similar to the Hyundai Casper’s long-wheelbase model, Electric. Despite the increased body size, off-road performance has been maintained.

It has secured a minimum ground clearance of 210 mm (8.3 inches) and boasts an approach angle of 36 degrees and a departure angle of 47 degrees, the same levels as the 3-door model. However, the ramp angle has been slightly reduced to 25 degrees.

While staying true to Jimny’s signature style, the Jimny Nomad introduces a more refined look. The vehicle’s 5-slot grille now features a sleek gunmetal finish, and a Nomad-exclusive emblem is added to highlight its special status. The interior has been optimized to comfortably fit four passengers, focusing on creating a practical space. The second-row seats do not include a full-flat function to maximize the cargo area.

Powertrain and Performance: Built for Versatility

The powertrain is equipped with a 1.5-liter gasoline naturally aspirated engine, which produces a maximum output of 105 horsepower and a maximum torque of 13.6 kg.m.

The transmission is available in a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic; part-time 4WD is standard. The newly developed ladder frame ensures sufficient rigidity despite the increased body weight, and straight-line stability and operability have also been improved.

For the price, the manual transmission model starts at 2,651,000 yen (about $17,304), and the automatic transmission model starts at 2,750,000 yen (about $17,950). This is about $3,450 higher than the 3-door model, but it is still attractive compared to competing models.

Besides, unlike the 3-door model produced in Japan, the Jimny Nomad will be made at a factory in India. Suzuki plans to sell this model globally in the Japanese market on April 3, 2025.

Industry insiders predicted, “In the case of the Jimny Nomad, while maintaining the off-road performance that is the advantage of the existing Jimny, practicality, and convenience have been greatly improved,” and “It will be well-received in the multi-purpose SUV market that covers both urban and leisure with a reasonable price range.”
