Kia is accelerating its leadership as a frontrunner in the Mexican automotive market. At the start of the year, it set a record-breaking sales milestone.

Kia Motors Mexico (KMM) reported on Wednesday that it sold 8,605 vehicles last month. This represents a 4.9% increase over the previous year and marks the highest January sales in the company’s history. Kia’s market share reached 7.2%.

The K3 model led this impressive performance, selling 3,988 units in January and solidifying its position as the brand’s monthly best-seller. This success can be attributed to smooth supply chains based on local production and competitive pricing strategies. Following the K3, the Seltos and K4 models also contributed significantly to the strong results, with sales of 1,301 and 1,299 units respectively.

Industry experts commend Kia for its ability to deliver high-quality products that resonate with Mexican drivers’ needs. One insider praised KMM, stating, “Through consistent investment in brand innovation and sustainable mobility, KMM has established itself as a benchmark in the Mexican automotive industry.”

KMM is intensifying efforts to secure demand by expanding its sales lineup. The portfolio is centered around SUVs, including the K3, Seltos, and K4, as well as the Sonet, Sportage, Sorento, and Telluride. To capture the growing electric vehicle (EV) market, KMM has also incorporated the Sportage HEV, Niro HEV, and EV6.

The company has also bolstered its export strategy. Kia exports vehicles manufactured at its Monterrey plant in Mexico to South America, Asia-Pacific, and the Middle East. As part of its global “One Naming” policy, Kia implemented a unified naming convention for the K3, first produced in 2023.

Kia surpassed 100,000 annual sales in the Mexican automotive market for the first time since entering the country, achieving this feat in just nine years. This success follows the company’s efforts in 2023 to renew 70% of its entire lineup and introduce its brand-exclusive EV, the EV6, to the local market.
