Daniel Kim Views
Japanese automaker Subaru has revealed its 2025 Forester HEV, poised to compete with the Hyundai Tucson and Kia Sportage in the SUV market.
This sixth-generation fully redesigned Forester HEV boasts enhanced performance and advanced features while maintaining a price point similar to its rivals, capturing significant market attention.
Evolution to a Hybrid System
The new Forester HEV combines a 2.5-liter four-cylinder boxer gasoline engine with a 1.1kWh lithium-ion battery pack and an electric motor, delivering a total output of 194 horsepower.
It comes standard with Subaru’s signature all-wheel-drive system and a Lineartronic CVT transmission.
Fuel efficiency is a standout feature. The car achieves up to 35 mpg in the city, 34 mpg on the highway, and a combined 35 mpg, a significant improvement over its internal combustion predecessor.
Advanced Features and Sleek Design
The exterior maintains Subaru’s signature design identity with a modern touch. Inside, a digital instrument cluster and an 11.6-inch infotainment display come standard, reinforcing the vehicle’s high-tech appeal.
The base trim includes 18-inch wheels and advanced driver assistance systems, including adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist, enhancing safety across the lineup.
Higher trims offer additional luxuries such as 19-inch wheels, a premium audio system, and dual-tone exterior color options for personalization. The upgraded interior enhances the premium SUV feel.
Off-Road-Focused Wilderness Trim
Later this year, Subaru will introduce a special option for off-road enthusiasts: the Wilderness trim. This variant is tailored for drivers who crave adventure beyond paved roads.
It features exclusive 17-inch wheels, a generous 9.3-inch ground clearance, and all-terrain tires designed to conquer challenging landscapes.
Another standout feature of the Wilderness trim is its technology. A differential-lock with a temperature sensor ensures stable performance even in extreme driving conditions.
The Wilderness trim also features specially tuned transmission settings for optimal off-road performance, while skid plates and underbody covers have been added to enhance vehicle protection.
Competitive Pricing Strengthens Market Position
Subaru has adopted an aggressive pricing strategy, with the new Forester HEV starting at $34,995 in the U.S. market.
This price point closely aligns with key competitors, such as the Hyundai Tucson Hybrid, at $34,510. It is expected to remain competitive against the upcoming refreshed Kia Sportage Hybrid, whose U.S. pricing has yet to be announced.
Despite its significant performance upgrades, the 2025 Forester HEV has not seen a major price increase compared to its predecessor, making it an attractive choice for consumers.
