In February, Hyundai and Kia broke previous sales records in the United States.

On Saturday, Hyundai Motor America reported monthly sales of 62,032 units, a 3% increase over the same period last year (63,410 units). Hyundai has now extended its five-month streak of best monthly sales with its highest-ever February sales.

By model, the Santa Fe Hybrid’s sales rose 194% over the previous year, while Tucson and Ioniq 6 sales increased by 2% and 12%, respectively. The growth was driven by a 57% increase in hybrid car sales and a 35% increase in electric car sales.

According to Kia Motors America, the company sold 63,303 units last month, a 7.2% increase over the same period the previous year. Kia held the record for the best monthly sales for five months in a row, recording its highest February sales ever. The all-new K4 compact drove Kia’s growth in February, selling 11,669 units, the highest monthly sales ever.

Major SUV models like Carnival (up 44%), Sportage (up 8%), and Telluride (up 13%) broke their February sales records, and sales of electric vehicle models rose 22% year over year to set a record for February sales.

Randy Parker, CEO of Hyundai Motor America, stated that strong sales, particularly of the Tucson and the growth in electric and hybrid vehicles, have led to the company breaking its sales records for five consecutive months. He expressed expectations to expand market share further and meet customer expectations based on Hyundai’s strong and diverse product lineup.

Eric Watson, Vice President of Sales at Kia Motors America, attributed the breaking of monthly sales records to strong sales of the newly launched sporty compact sedan, the All-New K4, and the consistently popular Kia SUV lineup. He noted that Kia, which exceeded customer expectations with its diverse lineup last year and broke its retail sales record for the seventh consecutive year, is continuing its positive trend this year.
