Why is Eve Gille, crowned ‘Miss France 2024’, making headlines?

For the first time in the history of the Miss France pageant, a contestant with a short haircut Eve Gille has been crowned Miss France 2024 offering a fresh perspective on traditional beauty standards.

The results of this contest go beyond a simple victory, delivering an important message about diversity and inclusivity. According to the UK’s Daily Mail, Eve Gille, hailing from Nord-Pas-de-Calais came in third in the public vote but clinched the final victory with strong support from the jury.

This victory symbolizes a challenge to the traditional beauty pageant standard of preferring long hairstyles and reevaluates the value of androgynous beauty.

Gille herself has hailed her victory as a ‘win for diversity,’ emphasizing that all women are different and have their unique qualities. Her statement is interpreted as a challenge to the traditional beauty standards of beauty pageants and an important message about social diversity and inclusivity.

However, reactions to the contest’s results are divided. Some criticize the pageant as being a ‘woke’ event, based on political correctness (PC).

Those in opposition support Gille and the jury’s decision, advocating that Gille will become the new symbol of Miss France. There are also various opinions emerging from the French political sphere regarding this event.

Sandrine Rousseau a member of the National Assembly and Fabien Roussel, Secretary of the French Communist Party have voiced their support for Gille. Meanwhile, Alexia Laroche-Joubert CEO of the France-based Banijay Group which owns the Miss France brand stated that the pageant is a social elevator for participants who could become future businesswomen, doctors, and film directors.

Eve Gille’s victory is seen as more than just an individual success. It breaks the traditional mold of beauty pageants and marks the beginning of a new era embracing diversity and inclusivity. It remains to be seen what changes her victory will bring to future beauty pageants.
