North Carolina Man Shares $100K Lottery Win with Friend – Here’s Why

Daniel Kim Views

A man who won $100,000 in the lottery has made headlines for keeping a past promise by sharing half his winnings with a friend.

North Carolina Education Lottery Commission announced on its website that Curtis Hudson had won a $100,000 lottery ticket.

The North Carolina Education Lottery was established in 2005 through the state’s lottery law. Half of the lottery sales revenue is paid out as prize money, and the other half is invested in educational funds for local school construction and other projects.

Hudson purchased the Diamond Deluxe ticket, which offers a maximum prize of $2 million. Four of the 12 winners receive $2 million, and eight receive $100,000.

Hudson bought his ticket in South Main Street, Laurinburg, Scotland County, where he resides, and won $100,000.

Upon hearing the news of his lottery win, he decided to share half of his winnings with his friend, Walter Bonds.

Hudson explained, “We made a promise a long time ago that if we ever won a big prize, we would split it in half. We’re both men who keep our promises.”

Ultimately, both men were invited to the lottery commission to collect their winnings. After excluding federal and state taxes, each received $35,753 out of their original $50,000 share.

Hudson plans to use half his winnings to remodel his house, while his friend intends to save his share.

Meanwhile, five people have won the Diamond Deluxe Ticket that Hudson won. Three $2 million winners and four $100,000 winners remain to be found.
