A video of a Tesla Cybertruck being punctured by a handgun has gone viral, raising questions about the bulletproof claims surrounding the vehicle. InsideEV reports that the Cybertruck’s stainless steel body panels are said to be bulletproof, but when owner Dante Colleu fired at his Cybertruck, he ended up creating a sizable hole in the tailgate. The specific type of handgun he used remains unknown.
When Tesla CEO Elon Musk first unveiled the Cybertruck in 2019, he claimed it could withstand bullets from at least a 9mm firearm. Last year, Musk released a video demonstrating the Cybertruck’s resilience to shots from 9mm handguns and submachine guns, exciting the vehicle’s toughness ahead of its official release.
Since then, many others have tested the Cybertruck’s durability, with several YouTubers conducting shooting experiments of their own. In one case, a host fired a .50 caliber sniper rifle at the Cybertruck, resulting in the bullet penetrating the door.
