Coinciding with the UN’s Universal Periodic Review (UPR) on North Korean human rights, an advertisement poster depicting North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in prison attire, seemingly trapped behind bars, was displayed at the entrance of the North Korean Permanent Mission to the United Nations in Switzerland.

PSCORE reported on Friday that they collaborated with Jeski Social Campaign to create this public service advertisement protesting human rights violations in North Korea and informing the global community about the situation. The poster features Kim in a prison uniform with the English text “ARREST ONE, SAVE MILLIONS,” suggesting that detaining one individual could liberate millions.

Jeski Social Campaign and the team from PSCORE documented the process of attaching and removing the poster during periods when North Korean representatives were absent. The representative, Yi Je Seok, mentioned plans to produce a video of the poster installation for an upcoming online campaign.

The “Kim Jong Un Behind Bars” poster was also displayed in downtown Geneva and Bern, where Kim once attended university. Nam Bada, PSCORE’s executive director, explained that regardless of the legal debates surrounding the possibility of trying the North Korean leader in an international court like the ICC, presenting such a weighty topic in a relatable manner can help shape global opinion and contribute to holding North Korea accountable for its actions. He added that our advertisement aims to capture the strong desire of 25 million North Koreans to escape the prison of human rights abuses.
