Madonna, known for her history of provocative moments, is making headlines again after posting an AI-generated image of herself hugging Pope Francis.

Madonna shared two photos on her Instagram Story on Sunday showing the Pope embracing her. In the images, Pope Francis appears to have his face pressed against Madonna’s cheek, and his arm is around her waist. The photos quickly gained attention—and backlash—for being created using artificial intelligence.

According to The Independent, the images have raised eyebrows for their controversial nature, especially given Madonna’s history of pushing boundaries with her posts.

Madonna shared the two photos with captions that read, “Going into the weekend like….” and “Feels Good to Be Seen……” Initially posted by an online user, the AI-generated images were later deleted from her account.

The post sparked strong reactions from many internet users, with some accusing Madonna of crossing the line into “blasphemy” and calling the images “disrespectful.”

On the other hand, some of Madonna’s fans defended her, praising her “wicked sense of humor” and arguing that she was simply reposting images that had already been circulating online for several days.

Currently, neither Madonna nor the Vatican has commented on the controversy.

This isn’t Madonna’s first time at the center of a religious scandal. In 1989, her “Like a Prayer” music video caused an uproar, particularly within the Catholic Church. The video featured a Black Jesus figure in sexually charged scenes and included an image of burning crosses, leading to widespread criticism and a strong response from the Vatican.
