wikitree Views

Actor Oh Young Soo, who has been charged with sexual harassment, will be removed from the movie “Big Family”.

Lotte Entertainment, the distributor of “Big Family”, announced on the 5th that they would edit out Oh Young Soo’s scenes from the movie and re-shoot with Lee Soon Jae as his replacement.

Directed by Yang Woo Seok, “Big Family” is a story about an unexpected cohabitation that occurs when grandchildren, whom the owner of the dumpling restaurant Pyeong Man Ok has never met before, come to visit after his son becomes a monk.

The film stars Lee Seung Gi, Kim Yun Seok, and Kim Sung Ryung, among others. Oh Young Soo had completed all his shooting but had to step down due to allegations of sexual harassment.

Previously, Oh Young Soo gained global attention by becoming the first Korean to win the Golden Globe Awards for Best Supporting Actor for his role in the 2022 Netflix original “Squid Game”. However, he was embroiled in controversy after being sued for sexual harassment in November of the same year.

At the time, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism halted the airing of a government regulatory reform advertisement featuring Oh Young Soo, and his appearance in the local performance of the play “Love Letter” was also canceled.

Oh Young Soo was handed over to trial on charges of sexually harassing a member of a theater troupe, A, twice in a walking path in a certain province where he stayed for a theater performance from July to September 2017, saying “Let’s hug once,” and kissing her on the cheek in front of her residence in September.

On the 2nd, at the decision trial held under the single criminal 6th division judge Jeong Yeon Ju at the Seongnam branch of the Suwon District Court, the prosecution demanded a one-year prison sentence for Oh Young Soo, who was indicted on charges of sexually harassing a woman, and requested an employment restriction order and disclosure of personal information.

Related to this, the prosecution requested severe punishment for the defendant, saying, “The defendant expressed his distorted desire for youth at a gathering where the victim and others were present in 2017, and sent an apology text to the victim’s request, but evaded responsibility by saying because she is like a daughter, causing the victim to feel despair.”

Oh Young Soo has denied the allegations in court, insisting that he did not commit the harassment. In his final statement, Oh Young Soo said, “It’s so hard and painful to stand in court at this age. I’m devastated that my life has ended up in this situation. I feel like my entire life is falling apart,” and added, “I wish for a wise judgment.”

The sentencing hearing is scheduled to be held on the 15th of next month.
