Wonka’s Sweet Success: Worldwide Profits Double Production Costs

[TV Report=Kim Yeon-ju Reporter] The movie ‘Wonka’ has been gaining attention for its upcoming release.

According to Mojo, a U.S. box office tracking site on the 26th, ‘Wonka’ ranked second in the North American box office following ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ recording a revenue of $83.56 million (approximately 108.8 billion KRW). The worldwide box office revenue astonishingly reached $254.86 million (approximately 332 billion KRW), making it into the top 20 of the 2023 worldwide box office, doubling its production cost of $125 million. In addition, it continues its box office success by scoring high with real audiences including a 90% popcorn index on Rotten Tomatoes and an A- on CinemaScore.

‘Wonka’ is a sweet adventure that depicts the remarkable journey of ‘Willy Wonka’ who only has sweet dreams and an old hat to become the world’s best chocolate maker. It is a film adaptation of a novel by famous British author Roald Dahl. It tells the story of ‘Willy Wonka’ the protagonist of ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ which was loved by movie fans worldwide.

Hollywood’s representative actor Timothy Chalamet who boasts solid acting skills and an excellent selection of works such as ‘Lady Bird’, ‘Dune’, and ‘Bones and All’ has been cast as Wonka attracting attention early on. In this film, Timothy Chalamet plans to vividly portray the passionate days of the charismatic chocolate maker Wonka with his unique sweet, and quirky charm.

‘Wonka’ is scheduled to be released in South Korea on January 31.
